About MycoCyclo — From Exhausted Ground to Living Soil
The Netherlands has a water problem. Dry summers, waterlogging in winter — and a soil that, after decades of intensive management, no longer holds water the way it should. MycoCyclo is working on a solution that lies right beneath our feet.
We are a regenerative research project based in Haarlem. We are developing and testing a replicable model for turning degraded farmland into living soil — a system that absorbs and retains rainwater, stores carbon, and produces healthy crops without synthetic fertilizer or pesticides.
In a local pilot, organic waste streams from Haarlem are converted into microbiological preparations. These are going to be applied to test fields and monitored over several years for soil health, water retention, and carbon storage. At least, that is the aim to do so. We are still looking for partners to work with.
A living soil holds water. That’s not a detail — that’s climate adaptation and mitigation.
